| Abstract | Over the last decades, a significant growth in the number of natural disasters recorded worldwide has been observed. Whether at the global or national level, most of these disasters are related to floods. This situation is further aggravated by the occupation of risk areas, which directly affects the necessity for flood risk management. However, in Brazil, there is a large deficit of systematized data, making exploring alternative data sources, such as citizen science, necessary to carry out these studies. As a result, this paper sought to carry out a comparison between data available in interviews with the population and satellite images, in order to discuss the joint use of these sources of information for the basis of studies aimed at preparing flood models. In general, citizen science proved the capacity of identifying floods and presenting water levels for these events. However, the necessity for a methodology capable of validating this information became evident. The assemblage data from interviews and satellite images, in turn to prove to have the potential to be used as a basis for managing flood risks and land use and occupation. RESUMO: Nas últimas décadas, é possível observar um crescimento significativo no número de desastres naturais registrados mundialmente. Seja no âmbito global ou nacional, a maior parte desses desastres estão relacionados às inundações. Essa situação ainda é agravada pela ocupação de áreas de risco, o que incide diretamente sobre a necessidade do gerenciamento destes eventos. Entretanto, no Brasil, existe um grande déficit de dados sistematizados, sendo necessária a exploração de fontes de dados alternativas, como a ciência cidadã, para a realização desses estudos. Diante disso, este trabalho buscou realizar uma comparação entre dados disponibilizados em entrevistas com a população e imagens de satélites, a fim de discutir a utilização conjunta dessas fontes de informações para o embasamento de estudos que visam a calibração de modelos de inundação. Em geral, a ciência cidadã mostrou-se capaz de identificar inundações e apresentar o nível de água para estes eventos. Entretanto, evidenciou-se a exigência de uma metodologia capaz de validar essas informações. O uso conjunto dos dados das entrevistas e imagens de satélites, por sua vez, revelou-se com potencial para ser utilizado como base para gerenciar riscos de inundações e uso e ocupação do solo. | |||
