| Abstract | In this work we report the first observation of time-resolved leader spectra associated with Terrestrial Gamma Ray Flashes (TGFs) at the Telescope Array Surface Detector (TASD). The TASD is a ground-based surface detector primarily designed to observe ultra-high energy cosmic rays. The TASD site is equipped with various lightning detection systems, including the Lightning Mapping Array (LMA), Fast Electric Field Change Sensor Antenna (FA), high-resolution Interferometers (INFTs), and the high-speeds camera Phantom v2012 and v711. These systems, along with the TASD, have successfully detected several TGFs in conjunction with thunderstorm-generated lightning discharges. In addition to the optical emissions of leaders associated with TGFs observed by the high-speed camera, we also aim to study spectroscopic analysis of these emissions. From these analyses, we can identify the chemical features, their time dependence, and the differences between leaders with and without TGF productions. To do this, we installed a spectroscopic system next to the high-speed camera. The system includes a grism placed in front of a high-speed camera Phantom v711 mounted by a 14 mm lens. The v711 camera recorded images at 29,900 frames per second, with a spectral resolution of 2 nm per pixel, covering a spectral range from 400 to 900 nm. In this work, we will present detailed analyses of the first leader spectra observed simultaneously with Gamma-ray emission. We have recorded ten spectral images around the TGF emission which showed the changing in the chemical components of the leader before, during, and after the TGF production between 400-900 nm. We also report here the calibration process which was applied for both leader and return stroke of spectral images. |
